The gospel of Jesus Christ is not a religious slogan. It is not a church tradition. It is not a motivational message created by men. It is not a sentimental phrase to be repeated without understanding, reverence, repentance, or faith.
05/26/2026
The gospel is the good news of God concerning His Son, Jesus Christ.
It is the message that God sent His Son into the world to save sinners. It is the announcement that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended to the right hand of God, and now grants forgiveness, justification, reconciliation, new birth, eternal life, and salvation from judgment to all who repent and believe in Him.
The apostle Paul wrote:
“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand.”
1 Corinthians 15:1
Then Paul defined the heart of that gospel:
“For I delivered to you first that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:3
“And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:4
This is the good news.
Christ died for our sins.
Christ was buried.
Christ rose again.
Christ saves all who repent and believe.
At Christianity News Daily and throughout the whole TUGN—The Uttermost Gospel Network media ecosystem—we do not shy away from the gospel. We are here to declare it, defend it, publish it, preach it, and spread it to the uttermost parts of the Earth.
The church must proclaim the gospel now. The media must not be ashamed of the gospel now. Preachers must not soften the gospel now. Christians must not hide the gospel now. The world must hear the gospel now.
For a fuller, Scripture-rich explanation of the gospel, readers are encouraged to visit Gospel HQ’s pillar page:
The Gospel Came from God, Not from Man
One of the most important truths about the gospel is that it did not originate with man.
The gospel was God’s idea.
The gospel came from heaven.
The gospel began in the counsel, mercy, and eternal purpose of God.
Before apostles preached it, before churches taught it, before missionaries carried it, before theologians defined it, and before sinners understood their desperate need for it, God Himself authored the gospel.
The gospel is not man reaching up to God. The gospel is God reaching down to man through His Son, Jesus Christ.
In Luke 1, Scripture records that the angel Gabriel was sent from God to Mary:
“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth.”
Luke 1:26
Gabriel did not come on his own authority. God sent him. The message did not originate on Earth. It came from heaven.
Gabriel declared to Mary:
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.”
Luke 1:30
Then he announced:
“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.”
Luke 1:31
Gabriel continued:
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”
Luke 1:32
And again:
“And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:33
This was not merely a birth announcement. It was heaven declaring that the long-promised Savior, King, Son of God, and Redeemer was coming into the world.
Then, after Christ was born, an angel of the Lord announced to the shepherds:
“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.”
Luke 2:10
Then the angel defined those good tidings:
“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11
There it is: heaven’s announcement of the gospel.
A Savior has been born.
He is Christ the Lord.
The good tidings are for all people.
This means God defined the gospel before men ever fully understood it. God announced the good news from heaven before the church ever preached it from Earth.
The Gospel Means Good News
The word “gospel” means good news or good tidings. But biblically, this good news is not vague positivity. It is not earthly optimism. It is not religious encouragement without redemption.
The gospel is God’s good news that He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save sinners.
The angelic announcement in Luke 2 is clear:
“I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.”
Luke 2:10
What are those good tidings?
“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11
The good news is not merely that a child was born. The good news is that a Savior was born.
The good news is not merely that history witnessed a remarkable birth. The good news is that Christ the Lord entered the world.
The good news is not merely sentimental Christmas language. It is the beginning of the saving mission that would lead Jesus from the manger to the cross, from the cross to the grave, from the grave to resurrection, and from resurrection to eternal glory.
The gospel means good news because sinners need saving.
The Bible says:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
And again:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
The bad news is that sin brings death. The good news is that God gives eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Why the Gospel Must Be Taken Seriously
No one should treat the gospel with contempt.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, had to die for this gospel. The gospel was purchased by blood. It was not cheap. Salvation is freely offered to sinners, but it cost the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Peter wrote:
“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold…”
1 Peter 1:18
But:
“With the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
1 Peter 1:19
The gospel must not be handled lightly, mocked casually, edited politically, softened culturally, or preached carelessly.
Hebrews warns:
“How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?”
Hebrews 2:3
That question should pierce the heart of this generation.
How shall we escape if we neglect the gospel?
How shall we escape if we despise the blood of Christ?
How shall we escape if we reject the Son of God?
How shall we escape if we treat salvation as though it is optional?
There is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
Peter preached:
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12
Jesus Himself declared the following:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6
The world may hate that statement. False religions may resist that statement. Secular culture may mock that statement. But Christianity must never retreat from that statement.
Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father.
The Gospel is the Power of God unto Salvation
The apostle Paul was not ashamed of the gospel.
He wrote:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…”
Romans 1:16
Christianity News Daily is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
TUGN is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
Gospel HQ is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
The true church of Jesus Christ must never be ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
The gospel is not one message among many. It is the power of God unto salvation. No sinner is saved apart from the saving work of God revealed through Jesus Christ.
The gospel is not the power of man.
It is not the power of politics.
It is not the power of entertainment.
It is not the power of a religious personality.
It is not the power of human wisdom.
It is the power of God unto salvation.
Paul wrote:
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18
The world may consider the cross foolish, but the saved know it as the power of God.
Christ Died for Our Sins
The cross is central to the gospel.
Paul wrote:
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:3
Jesus did not die as a helpless victim. He died willingly. He died according to the plan of God. He died as the spotless Lamb. He died for our sins.
Isaiah prophesied:
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…”
Isaiah 53:5
Peter wrote:
“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree…”
1 Peter 2:24
John wrote:
“The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7
Christ died for our sins. That means His death was substitutionary. He stood in the place of sinners. He bore the judgment that sinners deserved. He offered Himself as the sacrifice that only He could offer.
The Bible says:
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us…”
2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus knew no sin. He committed no sin. He had no sin. Yet He bore sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
This is why the gospel must never be reduced to moral advice. The gospel is not “try harder.” The gospel is not “be religious.” The gospel is not “follow your heart.” The gospel is not “all roads lead to God.”
The gospel is this: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
Christ Was Buried and Rose Again
Paul continues:
“And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:4
The burial of Jesus confirms the reality of His death. He truly died. His body was laid in the tomb.
But the tomb was not the final Word.
The angel declared:
“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.”
Matthew 28:6
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is essential to the gospel. Without the resurrection, there is no Christian faith.
Paul wrote:
“And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”
1 Corinthians 15:17
But Christ is risen.
Jesus Himself declared the following:
“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.”
Revelation 1:18
The resurrection proves that Jesus is the Son of God. It proves that His sacrifice was accepted. It proves that death has been defeated. It proves that believers have hope beyond the grave.
The risen Christ is not a memory. He is alive. He reigns. He intercedes. He saves. He will return.
The Gospel Calls Sinners to Repentance and Faith
The biblical gospel includes repentance.
Jesus preached:
“Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:15
After His resurrection, Jesus said:
“Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations…”
Luke 24:47
Peter preached:
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…”
Acts 3:19
Paul declared:
“God… now commands all men everywhere to repent.”
Acts 17:30
Repentance is not a human work that earns salvation. It is a turning of the heart from sin toward God. It is a change of mind that aligns with God’s view of sin and turns to Christ for mercy.
The gospel must also be believed.
Jesus said:
“He who believes in Me has everlasting life.”
John 6:47
Acts 16:31 says:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…”
Romans 10:9 says:
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Faith means trusting in Jesus Christ. It means relying on Him, receiving Him, believing His Word, and resting in His finished work.
The Gospel Saves by Grace, Not Works
The gospel destroys human boasting because salvation is by grace.
Ephesians 2:8–9 says:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”
Ephesians 2:8
“Not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:9
Titus 3:5 says:
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us…”
Salvation is not a reward for the righteous. It is a gift to the guilty who believe in Jesus Christ.
No one will stand before God and boast, “I saved myself.” Every redeemed soul will glorify the Lamb.
Revelation 1:5 praises Jesus Christ:
“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood…”
All glory belongs to Christ.
The Gospel Restores the Backslidden Christian
The gospel is not only the message that saves the lost. It is also the message that calls the backslidden Christian back to the fear of God, the love of Christ, the authority of Scripture, and the seriousness of holy living.
Many Christians began with zeal but have grown cold. Some once loved prayer, Scripture, worship, holiness, evangelism, and fellowship, but have drifted. Others still attend church but no longer tremble at the Word.
The Lord Jesus warned the church in Ephesus:
“You have left your first love.”
Revelation 2:4
Then He commanded:
“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works…”
Revelation 2:5
The answer to backsliding is not denial. It is remembrance, repentance, and return.
The gospel reminds the backslidden Christian of the price Christ paid. Jesus did not shed His blood so His people could love the world. He did not die so His people could return to the chains of sin. He did not rise again so His people could sleep spiritually while souls perish.
Titus 2:14 says, Christ:
“Gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people…”
Return to the cross.
Return to repentance.
Return to prayer.
Return to the Word.
Return to holiness.
Return to your first love.
Return to the fear of the Lord.
Return to the mission of the gospel.
1 John 1:9 gives hope:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins…”
The backslidden Christian should not run from Christ. Run to Him. He is merciful. He restores. He cleanses.
The Gospel Warns the Lost Soul
To the lost soul, the gospel is the message you cannot afford to ignore.
Jesus said:
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Mark 8:36
You may gain money, reputation, pleasure, education, influence, possessions, comfort, and worldly success, but if you lose your soul, you have lost everything.
Hebrews 9:27 says:
“It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.”
But God has provided salvation through Jesus Christ.
John 3:17 says:
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
Luke 19:10 says:
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Do not ignore Him. Do not postpone repentance. Do not despise the invitation of God. Do not assume that tomorrow belongs to you.
James 4:14 says life is:
“A vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
The gospel comes to you as mercy. Receive Christ while the door of mercy is open.
The Gospel Must Be Preached Before the End
Jesus commanded His disciples:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…”
Matthew 28:19
He also said:
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15
And in Matthew 24, the Lord declared:
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
Matthew 24:14
The gospel must go forth.
Christianity News Daily and the TUGN media ecosystem are here to proclaim it without shame. We are here to use every lawful and biblical platform available to lift Jesus Christ, publish the Word, announce the gospel, strengthen the church, warn the world, and point souls to salvation.
The time for gospel silence is over.
The time for gospel clarity is now.
The time for gospel preaching is not just one day. During the prophetic judgments described in Revelation, an angel will fly in the midst of heaven, proclaiming the everlasting gospel to those who dwell on the Earth.
Revelation 14:6 says:
“Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth…”
The verse continues:
“To every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.”
Revelation 14:6
Then the angel says:
“Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come…”
Revelation 14:7
This is sobering.
The church should not wait for angels to declare what Christ has already commanded His people to preach. The gospel must be declared now. The nations must hear now. Sinners must be warned now. Christ must be proclaimed now.
Before the angels fly through the heavens in the time of judgment, the church must be faithful to the Great Commission in the time of mercy.
The Gospel Must Not Be Changed
Because the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, it must never be changed.
Paul warned:
“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel.”
Galatians 1:6
Then he said:
“Which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.”
Galatians 1:7
Then Paul gave this severe warning:
“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:8
The gospel must not be replaced with politics, psychology, prosperity, entertainment, religious performance, universalism, self-help, or human philosophy.
The gospel is Christ crucified and risen.
The gospel is repentance and remission of sins in His name.
The gospel is salvation by grace through faith.
The gospel is forgiveness through the blood of Jesus.
The gospel is eternal life through the Son of God.
The gospel is the only way to the Father.
A Clear Biblical Definition of the Gospel
