Secularism is Satan’s New Religion that Ferments the Lies with Claims “When You Die You Just Become Dirt” Which Untold Lost Souls in the Western World Believe and Subscribe to by Ignoring the Reality of Eternity.

Secularism isn’t passive unbelief. It is active rebellion against God, a system of thought and life that seeks to remove Him from all public and personal life. It is not simply atheism or agnosticism but a framework that interprets reality without God. And at its core lies a toxic lie: “When you die, you just become dirt.”

In the post-Christian culture of the West, a powerful deception has taken root—one that doesn’t wear the robes of traditional religion but still demands allegiance, shapes morality, defines identity, and offers its version of salvation. That deception is secularism, an artificial ideology posing as neutrality. Still, in truth, it is a false religion, crafted by Satan to blind multitudes from the truth of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This article examines the biblical response to secularism and its fatal worldview, revealing how Scripture exposes this ideology as a satanic counterfeit, how it leads souls astray, and how only the truth of the Gospel can rescue those trapped within its grip.

The Religion of Secularism: A Satanic Counterfeit

Contrary to what many think, secularism is not neutral. It is not merely the absence of religion but the presence of another: a godless worldview that offers moral codes, explanations for life, death, and meaning, and even a kind of salvation—liberation from traditional faith, particularly Christianity.

At the root of this system is Satan, the Father of Lies (John 8:44), who has always sought to redirect humanity’s worship from God to anything else. In the garden, he tempted Eve with the idea that God was withholding something good, and ever since, he has used deception to fracture man’s relationship with his Creator.

Secularism is just one of his modern tools. It teaches:

  • There is no Creator.
  • Life is a cosmic accident.
  • Morality is subjective.
  • Truth is relative.
  • Death is final.

This worldview masquerades as intellectual freedom, but in reality, it is a form of spiritual bondage. The Apostle Paul speaks directly to such deception in Romans 1:18-23:

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness… Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

The Bible states plainly that rejecting God stems from suppressing the truth, not from a lack of evidence. People choose not to believe because they would rather not be accountable to their Creator.

The Lie: “When You Die, You Just Become Dirt”

Perhaps the most devastating claim of secularism is its doctrine of death: the belief that death is the end, the final curtain, the great nothing. According to this view, the human soul is no different than that of an animal. When your heart stops, your existence comes to an end, and your body returns to the earth. Period.

This lie is incredibly dangerous. It permits people to live however they want, without fear of judgment, consequences, or eternal accountability. It whispers, “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.”

But the Word of God says otherwise:

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” — Hebrews 9:27

Death is not the end. It is a doorway into eternity—either into the presence of God or into everlasting separation from Him in hell. Every soul continues after death. The denial of this truth doesn’t make it disappear.

Satan has cleverly crafted secularism to dull people’s spiritual senses. He lures them into eternal ruin by convincing them that this life is all there is. But Jesus Christ warned:

“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” — Matthew 10:28

Western Civilization and the Epidemic of Eternal Blindness

The cultural landscape of the West has undergone a radical transformation with the rise of secularism. Once founded upon Christian principles, nations like the United States, the United Kingdom, and many across Europe now openly scoff at the Bible and its moral teachings. Schools promote evolution and gender ideology. Governments legalize sin and silence truth. Churches too often have compromised or gone silent.

The result is a society where untold millions live as if they have no soul.

“They did not like to retain God in their knowledge, so God gave them over to a debased mind…” —Romans 1:28

The erosion of belief in God has led to moral confusion, identity crises, depression, broken homes, and societal decay. But worse than the temporal effects is the eternal tragedy: souls lost forever because they believed the lie.

The psalmist says:

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” — Psalm 14:1

Rather than an intellectual critique, it’s a god-given interpretation. It’s not that the “fool” lacks intelligence, but that they are morally corrupt, willingly ignorant, arrogant, and self-sufficient.

The Cross: Foolishness to Those Who Are Perishing

To the secular mind, the Gospel is nonsense. The idea that God became a man, died on a cross for sins, and rose from the dead is mocked as myth or superstition. Paul acknowledged this reaction in 1 Corinthians 1:18:

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

But God has chosen what the world calls foolish to shame the wise. In a culture obsessed with knowledge and progress, God calls men to childlike faith and repentance. The cross is offensive because it reveals:

  • Our sinfulness
  • Our inability to save ourselves
  • Our need for a Savior

To reject the cross is not only to remain in spiritual death but to invite eternal damnation.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already…” — John 3:18

Agnosticism: Comfortable Indifference to Eternal Consequences

Agnostics claim they “don’t know” if God exists. They live in a state of suspended disbelief, believing it to be a safe middle ground. But Jesus does not allow for neutrality:

“He who is not with Me is against Me…” — Matthew 12:30

Agnosticism, like atheism, is a form of rebellion. It claims that God has not made Himself knowable, when in fact He has:

“Since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes have been seen so that they are without excuse.” — Romans 1:20

Creation testifies of God’s glory. Conscience testifies to His moral law. The Gospel testifies of His love. Agnosticism is not a lack of evidence but rather a lack of willingness to respond to the evidence.

Hell Is Real: Eternity Is Coming

The doctrine of hell has all but disappeared from modern pulpits, yet Jesus spoke more about hell than anyone else in the Bible. Hell is not metaphorical. It is not symbolic. It is a real place of conscious torment, prepared initially for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41), but which will be the final destination of all who reject Christ.

Secularism erases hell from the public conscience, but it cannot erase hell from reality.

“These shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” — Matthew 25:46

But There Is Still Hope: The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The good news is that salvation is available to all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ. The Gospel is not just an idea; it is the power of God to transform lives and rescue from the wrath to come.

Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6.

No philosophy, ideology, or secular doctrine can reconcile man to God. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse sin. Only His resurrection conquers death. Only His Spirit can open blind eyes.

Conclusion: Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve

Secularism is not harmless. It is a demonic ideology masquerading as wisdom. It promises freedom but delivers bondage. It claims enlightenment but brings darkness. And its central lie—that death is the end—has led multitudes into eternal ruin.

You will die. That is certain. But what happens after is not dirt and decay—it is judgment or reward, heaven or hell.

To ignore this truth is the gravest mistake you can make. To delay is dangerous. But to believe in Christ is to pass from death to life.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.” — Isaiah 55:6

Today, reject the lies of secularism. Turn to the living God. Receive His Son. Secure your eternity.

Jesus is the only hope in a world full of lies. Believe in Him before it is too late.
